Children’s Case Managers Orientation Series

The BHTEN Children’s Case Managers’ Orientation Series is designed to familiarize Case Managers with the Children-Serving Systems in Philadelphia and to meet Commonwealth training requirements for new case managers. This series includes several classes designed to support system transformation including Cultural Competence and Trauma and Resilience.  These sessions are conducted by professionals with expertise in these respective areas. The guiding principle in designing the Orientation Series is, “What do the new Philadelphia children’s case managers need to know to effectively serve the children and their families?”

Through a directive from the Philadelphia DBH/IDS, all new Children’s Blended Case Managers, Family-Based Staff, and Drug & Alcohol Case Managers, and their supervisors, are required to attend the orientation series.  BHRS Case Managers, while not required, are invited to attend the series.

The Orientation Series consist of nine (9) full-day sessions. Because this series targets a specific audience, registration forms will be sent directly to appropriate individuals.

Adult CM Orientation

These 11 sessions are designed to give new behavioral health case managers an overview of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health as well as provide a fundamental knowledge about governmental regulations and standards.   The series is also designed to ensure DBH-CM’s receive an equitable amount of therapeutic skills, resources, and knowledge.  In turn DBH-CM’s will more confidently coordinate the services needed and wanted by those being assisted in the recovery process.  The series format will include lecture, discussion and experiential exercises. Because this series targets a specific audience, registration information will be sent directly to appropriate individuals.

Specialized CM

The Specialized-CM Trainings are designed to compliment the Philadelphia DBH-CM Orientation.  The expanded time frame allows for more in-depth study.   Each session is a stand alone topic with its own Learning Objectives.  Each TCM team is expected to send a representative to each session. Attendee’s will be expected to participate in individual and group activities as well as provide ratings and feedback about Learning Objectives on Course Evaluations. Because this series targets a specific audience, registration information will be sent directly to appropriate individuals.
