This training will provide participants with basic introductory training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who have been impacted by trauma, and their parents or primary caregivers. This training will provide an overview of the research which supports TF-CBT, the basic components of the TF-CBT model, comprehensive descriptions of how to implement each of these components, and numerous clinical case examples which illustrate how to implement the model with children from different age groups and cultural backgrounds.

Learning Objectives: 

Day 1
1.  Discuss the research supporting TF-CBT.
2.  Identify each of the PRACTICE components.
3.  Identify at least two interventions that can be used with parents (caretakers) as part of TF-CBT.
4.  Describe at least two relaxation strategies with children.

Day 2
1.  Identify the basic elements of the cognitive triangle.
2.  List at least two strategies to help children achieve better affective regulation.
3.  List at least three methods of developing a trauma narrative with children.
4.  Discuss how to implement TF-CBT with children of different ages.

Day 3
1.  Discuss how to implement TF-CBT with children and families from different cultural backgrounds.
2.  Identify two methods of helping children to cognitively process trauma-related distortions.
3.  Describe at least two reasons why conjoint sessions to share the trauma narrative should not be conducted.
4.  List two steps of In Vivo Exposure.

Intended Audience: 

This training is only for invited PACTS providers who have completed the online TF-CBT training and Screening & Assessment prerequisites.

Completion Requirements: 

Participants must attend all three days of training, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation in order to receive credit.
