Unfortunately, sexual harrassment and sexual violence are all too common among young people. Almost half of all middle and high school students reported experiencing some form of sexual harassment in their school careers. This workshop will look at the impact of sexual violence on our youth while examining causes, implications and obligations of schools, and strategies for prevention and intervention.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Examine the current research on sexual harassment and violence among youth;
- Review the guidance provided by the US Department of Education specific to sexual harassment and violence;
- Outline the legal role and responsibilities of schools and agencies in this area; and,
- Assess programs and efforts that provide a safe environment for all students.
This introductory level course, is designed for all professionals (behavioral health specialists, teachers, social workers, etc.) who work with young people. Parents are also welcomed.
