There is good news and not-so-good news regarding drug use among teens.  The good news: in one nation-wide study, illicit drug use (except for marijuana) is at its lowest level in the past two decades.  The not-so-good news is an increase in the use of certain drugs and a decline in the perception of risk in using a number of substances.  This workshop will look at just what is going on with our teen-agers.

Learning Objectives: 

By the end of this training, participants will have:

  • Explored the current research on substance use and abuse among young people;
  • Examined current drug trends among youth;
  • Discussed the physiological aspects of substance use in teens; and,
  • Outlined prevention, intervention and possible treatment options for young people.
Intended Audience: 

This introductory level course, is designed for all professionals (behavioral health specialists, teachers, social workers, etc.) who work with young people.  Parents are also welcomed.  There are no prerequisites for this program.
