This workshop will provide instruction in the following: DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for children and adolescents PTSD, ages 8 and up, the Child Posttraumatic Stress Scale for DSM-5 (Interview version – CPSSI-5) and a self-report version of the Child Posttraumatic Stress Scale for DSM-5. Administration of the CPSSI-5 and CPSS-SR-5 will be covered and participants will rate and discuss the rationale and scoring of a sample CPSSI-5. Participants will also be introduced to the evidence-based Prolonged Exposure Therapy for Adolescents with PTSD.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• Define trauma and review DSM-5 criteria for PTSD
• Discuss other considerations in making diagnosis (cultural factors, differential diagnosis)
• Review comorbidity, prevalence, course, and prognosis of PTSD
• Discuss risk factors for development of PTSD
• Define assessment reliability and validity and discuss recommendations for PTSD assessment method and structure
• Discuss administration and scoring conventions of the CPSS-SR-5 and CPSSI-5
• Rate a sample CPSSI-5
• Review emotional processing theory and Prolonged Exposure Therapy for Adolescents with PTSD
