Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) developed in the 1980’s was published as a manualized evidence based treatment in 1993. Skills Training is a mode of standard, or comprehensive DBT.  This course is an overview of DBT skills and provides skills training that are taught in groups. These skills emphasize acquiring new behaviors then strengthening and generalizing them with support provided by coaching.

By the end of this two day training participants will be able to:

April 1, 2019-Day 1

  • Describe principles and practices of mindfulness
  • Describe three basic principles of DBT
  • List steps in structuring a skills group
  • List steps in practicing and teaching at least 1 mindfulness exercise
  • Define therapy-interfering behavior
  • Describe one distress tolerance skill, one interpersonal effectiveness skill, and one emotion regulation skill

April 2, 2019-Day 2

  • Define and describe skills coaching
  • Define and describe the VALID coaching model
  • List and describe levels of validation
  • List steps in creating contingency management at your setting
  • List steps in behavioral coaching Completion Requirements:  Meet attendance requirements for ceus and turn in an evaluation
