This workshop will provide a refresher on the underlying theory and techniques of Prolonged Exposure Therapy and further advance therapists’ skills when using Prolonged Exposure therapy for PTSD.  

Learning Objectives: 

By the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

  • Discuss the theory and techniques of PE
  • Describe problems often encountered in choosing index traumas and creating in vivo hierarchies
  • Identify who is an appropriate candidate to receive PE
  • Discuss resolving difficulties therapists are experiencing engaging clients in PE  (i.e., how to present treatment and how to
  • address avoidance)
  • Describe advanced training in imaginal exposure and processing of traumatic memories
  • Discuss techniques to deal with inappropriate engagement with traumatic memories (under- and over-engagement)
