Sexting & Sexual Bullying in Social Media: Mental Health and Legal Consequences

This workshop addresses the collision of sexting, sexual bullying, social media. The most current research outlining young people’s involvement with technology, sexting and sexual bullying will be examined. Of special interest are the mental health and legal issues faced by youth as a consequence of such activity. Recommended protocols for investigation and interventions will be reviewed as well as strategies to effectively educate youth about sexting and sexual bullying.

Learning Objectives:

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define and recognize sexting and sexual bullying;
  • Identify specific mental health and legal consequences of sexting and sexual bullying; and,
  • Assess strategies for addressing sexting, sexual bullying, and the problematic use of social media

Intended Audience:

This introductory level course, is designed for all professionals (behavioral health specialists, teachers, social workers, etc.) who work with young people. Parents are also welcomed.
