The Digital World of Youth: Speech & Cyber Bullying

It is no secret that social media plays a large, maybe even dominant, role in the lives of young people. However, young people are often unaware of just how much personal information they are sharing and who has access to this information. This program will look at the realities of youth and their use of social media, including the legal and moral implications of that use.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this workshop, participants will have:

  • Reviewed current data on and use of digital media and young people;
  • Explored the use of social media to bully and harass;
  • Examined the legal concerns surrounding use of social media; and,
  • Outlined prevention & intervention strategies to address these issues.

Intended Audience:

This introductory level course, is designed for all professionals (behavioral health specialists, teachers, social workers, etc.) who work with young people. Parents are also welcomed. There are no prerequisites for this program.
