Digital media and youth are often seen as synonymous…in the US, young people average 44 hours weekly in media us. When that media use becomes excessive there can be ill-effects in many aspects of the lives of these young people. This program will look at internet use among youth, both the positive and negative aspects, and discuss what to do when such use becomes problematic.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Define internet, social media, and gaming addiction;
- Explore the use and abuse of social media among youth;
- List the principles for effective intervention; and,
- Cite the available resources for further information and prevention.
This introductory level course, is designed for all professionals (behavioral health specialists, teachers, social workers, etc.) who work with young people. Parents are also welcomed.
Participants must attend entire presentation and complete a course evaluation in order to receive credits.
