Educators & schools have a key role in assuring the safety and support of transgender youth. Yet, levels of bullying and sexual harassment are extraordinarily high among transgender youth, with over 60% reporting being victimized on a regular basis. Suicide attempts among transgender youth are more than 25 times the national average. Keeping transgender students safe is a matter of human dignity and rights. This workshop will explore ways adults can ensure transgender students have a safe and supportive environment
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Define gender, gender expression, and sexual orientation;
- Cite current research on bullying of transgender youth;
- Explore applicable laws outlining student safety; and,
- Develop strategies to maintain a climate of safety & respect for transgender and all youth.
This introductory level course, is designed for all professionals (behavioral health specialists, teachers, social workers, etc.) who work with young people. Parents are also welcomed
