This workshop addresses the collision of sexting, sexual bullying, social media and the resulting mental health issues and legal consequences. Participants will review the most current research and trends focusing on youth’s involvement with technology, sexting and sexual bullying. Digital speech affords our youth the ability to send images via texting and a wide variety of apps popular among them. Exactly how involved are youth in sexting? How prevalent is sexual bullying among adolescents and pre-teens? This workshop will answer those questions and also examine the latest research addressing sexting and sexual bullying among youth; potential mental health issues for involvement in sexting and sexual bullying; legal consequences and federal & state laws impacting sexting and sexual bullying; and recommended protocols for investigation and interventions will be reviewed, as well as how to effectively educate youth about sexing and sexual bullying.
