About This Course

This course is designed to define vicarious trauma and understand its impact on the helper professional. This webinar will explore sign and symptoms while identifying preventative strategies to intervene and decrease its impact.

 

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Define and discuss vicarious trauma (VT) as well as briefly review related conditions such as, secondary trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout.
  2. Review signs and symptoms of vicarious traumatization as well as the impact it has on helpers.
  3. Discuss applicable strategies for preventing and intervening with the symptoms of VT.

Completion Requirements: 

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.

BHTEN is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is authorized to issue the IACET CEU.
As an IACET Accredited Provider, BHTEN offers CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard.  BHTEN is authorized by IACET to offer CEUs for this program.

Brienne holds a MA in Mental Health Counseling from Seton Hall University and has training in trauma, counseling practices (including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Grief), learning management systems, and project management. Brienne is also a CPI Certified Associate Instructor for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention®. Brienne currently works at DBHIDS as the Learning Development Specialist.

Tara Bruno

Tara is an individual with lived experience who has learned how to overcome the obstacles of intergenerational violence and trauma and utilize her personal experience to inform and empower others. A first generation college graduate, Tara earned her MA in Applied Sociology as a Community Fellow Scholar at Lehigh University while serving as a grassroots community organizer for the RenewLV campaign. Tara then spent several years as an Adjunct Instructor in Sociology and Cultural Anthropology as well as served as an advisor for the student services multi cultural club and Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honors Society. Additionally, Tara has earned her Certification in Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counseling (CAADC) and is Certified in REBT (CBT), DBT & Trauma Informed Care. Tara spent several years in direct service as a Clinician for Inpatient, Outpatient, Mobile Therapy (Children & Adolescents), Mental Health and Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) facilities. Tara has recently become a Certified Crisis Prevention & Intervention Instructor and a Mental Health First Aid Trainer. Tara is currently earning a Professional Certificate in Restorative Justice and was the recipient of the National Center on Justice Reform Scholarship. Tara plans to coordinate a training series that incorporates restorative justice practices in Philadelphia’s schools and community organizations. She also currently volunteers her time serving several community organizations in Philadelphia, including the Philadelphia & Pennsylvania Reentry Coalitions (PRC & PARC).
