Veronica O. Bowlan

Clinical Trainer

Veronica O. Bowlan is a licensed social worker in Pennsylvania with over thirty years experience working in community behavioral health services as well as in a private psychotherapy practice. She has worked with diverse populations in inpatient, outpatient and residential settings providing clinical services to adults with serious mental illness; women with substance abuse, serious mental illness and trauma; and, children and families with behavioral health problems. She has also worked in Child Welfare providing direct services to children and families, as well as psychoeducation, support groups and staff training. She developed a video conference series on trauma-informed practice and serious mental illness that was delivered to Office of Vocational Rehabilitation staff across Pennsylvania. Ms. Bowlan has been trained as a therapist in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and participated in setting up a DBT program in Allentown State Hospital. She also trains DUCOM psychiatry residents in DBT, psychological trauma and family Psychoeducation. She is currently working with the Psychiatry Department to set up a clinical elective in DBT. She has helped create a multi-course certificate series in Trauma-informed treatment, teaching courses in the series throughout Pennsylvania. She is currently working to integrate public health issues into behavioral health training focused on high-risk women for developing depression in both pregnancy and postpartum. She is a certified practitioner in Psychodrama and is a trained family therapist.
