We are excited to announce the well-deserved promotion  of Elizabeth Harrison as Associate Director at Behavioral Health Training and Education Network (BHTEN).  Liz's behavioral health background includes numerous positions as drug and alcohol residential treatment facility therapist and supervisor.

She is a certified instructor of Mental Health First Aid and Opioid Overdose Prevention and Narcan Rescue Training instructor, a Certified Instructor.  She has presented organizational professional development training seminars at local, state and national venues.

We are excited to announce the addition of Abigail Pol as the incoming Program Director at Behavioral Health Training and Education Network (BHTEN). Abbey is an experienced leader with background in behavioral health program development, procurements, clinical supervision, training development and delivery, and organizational management. She was most recently employed by Community Behavioral Health (CBH) as the Manager of Network Development, where she led the organization's procurement, training and technical assistance process.

Much of the analysis phase focuses on learner for whom we are designing the instructions. Factors, such as their age, culture, time constraints, previous knowledge, etc., will influence the design of the instructions. The results of the learner analysis will define three areas – outcomes, assessment, and activities that must align with each other to ensure an effective learning experience.

What is interactivity in elearning?  Chris Pappas (2015) defined it as the “dialogue between learners and e-learning tools through which learners become engaged and involved in the e-learning process.” Interactivity is held as the major ingredient in the success of e-learning segment, but what qualifies as interactivity. Some hold that clicking the Next button provides interactivity, but others derisively refer to that type of interactivity as “page turning.”  Others hold that videos with complex scenarios and intricate branching qualify as interactive, but its high cost makes it unfeasible for some organizations. There is no one answer, because each e-learning differs in content, budget, your technical infrastructure, and the target audience.

Today’s technology has made a veritable smorgasbord of multimedia that can be combined for engaging e-learning experience. But unlike gumbo where everything is thrown into the pot with mouthing-watering results, the selection and implementation of multimedia must take in the human cognitive processes.  Just as the chef must know how to prepare a proper roux and to season with okra and filé for a savory gumbo; the developer must know how to arrange the content and media for effective learning.

Act 31 was passed into law and takes effect on 1/1/15.  This law requires that all mandated reporters complete training in child abuse recognition and reporting.
