About This Course
The training course will assist substance treatment providers to better understand how cognitive impairments associated with brain injury interact with treatment for opioid misuse. This high-level course is geared towards Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors and Addictions Counselors. Course topics include: Brain Basics and the Toxic Brain; Understanding the Effects of Pathology; Cognitive, Emotional and Behavioral Techniques for Treating Persons with Co-Occurring Opioid Use Disorder and Brain Injury; and he Integration of Client Needs, Resources and Funding.
1. Describe the types and epidemiology of brain injury
2. Describe screening tools to identify traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury
3. Describe how memory and executive functioning impairments impact substance misuse treatment
4. Describe the unique needs of individuals with brain injury as they impact treatment
