About This Course

This workshop will lay the argument for including family members in the therapeutic alliance and exploring the family system. Participants will learn to use the LEAP principles of Listen, Empathize, Agree, and Partner to join with the family system. This presentation will also cover how using family systems can be used to enhance adopted models, such as ABA and TF-CBT.

Learning Objectives: 

1. Explore if clinicians view family members as assets or barriers to treatment to lay argument for importance of family work. 
2. Increase understanding of family systems theory and ways family systems work can improve clinical sessions.
3. Use LEAP – listen, empathize, agree, and partner – as a starting point on how to join with the family system.
4. Understand how family systems can enhance adopted models, such as ABA, TF-CBT, and other treatment modalities.

Intended Audience: 

Clinicians who work in outpatient providers, drug and alcohol programs, community based services, and residential treatment facilities

Participants must attend all sessions, participate in all activities, complete any post-tests, and submit an evaluation to receive credits and a certificate.

Credit Statements: 

1.5 IACET CEUs. BHTEN is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is authorized to
issue the IACET CEU. As an IACET Accredited Provider, BHTEN offers CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard.
BHTEN is authorized by IACET to offer 1.5 CEUs for this program.


15.0 SW credit hours awarded. This program is co-sponsored by Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research for a
