About This Course

Trauma Exposure Response can reduce direct service and clinical staff’s capacity to be effective, caring, engaging, hopeful and enthusiastic in the delivery of services. It is essential for staff, with support and information from their supervisors to understand and attend to the possible impact of serving individuals and families with histories of childhood abuse and adversity. This training will present strategies and tools that supervisors can use in their program settings to address and help balance the impact of vicarious traumatization and secondary trauma

Learning Objectives: 

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define Trauma Exposure Response, Vicarious Traumatization, and Secondary Trauma
  • Describe the impact on practitioners and their work
  • Identify techniques that assess for and address Trauma Exposure Response
  • Discuss supervisory strategies related to preventing and addressing Vicarious Traumatization & Secondary Trauma
