About This Course

This educational activity thoroughly explores tobacco use behavior specific to individuals with substance use and mental disorders, the rationale for treating tobacco dependence within the clinical population, implementation of tobacco-free environmental policy, and strategy to denormalize tobacco use in the treatment setting. Recommendations for an integrated recovery-oriented tobacco intervention model are based on research findings and lessons learned from New York State DOH Tobacco Control Promising Tobacco Intervention Projects.

Learning Objectives: 
  1. Describe at least three aspects of tobacco use specific to individuals with substance use and mental disorders.
  2. Identify two intervention strategies to tailor evidence-based tobacco dependence practice guidelines to meet the needs of a behavioral health clinical population.
Intended Audience: 

Employees responsible for developing and providing behavioral counseling interventions in their agency including program directors, supervisors, therapists, counselors, and recovery peer specialists.

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CE/CEU certificates and certificates of completion will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CE/CEU or Certificate of Completion through your DBHIDS Learning Hub account.
