About This Course

Creating Welcoming and Affirming Services for Persons Who Are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, or Intersex (LGBTQI) is designed for anyone wishing to become more aware of some of the issues faced by persons represented in the LGBTQI initials. We explore the effects of language, culture, and power dynamics as well as examine our own attitudes, values and thinking that are conditioned by our own upbringing, acculturation, and knowledge. Our focus is on ways to become more welcoming and affirming to all persons who differ from us and to learn from them how to be helpful as part of a healing community of support

Learning Objectives: 

  1. To gain an understanding of gender and gender identity
  2. To gain an understanding of sexual orientation
  3. To learn some common language used to describe various genders, gender identities and sexual orientations
  4. To learn the 6 basic steps of Gender Emergence
  5. To learn the 6 basic steps of coming out
  6. To identify at least 3 health disparities among LGBTQI+ individuals
  7. To identify at least 3 steps, to help create a more welcoming and affirming environment for LGBTQ at my organization

Completion Requirements: 

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.

 

Credit Statements:

Behavioral Health Training and Education Network BHTEN, #1779, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Behavioral Health Training and Education Network BHTEN maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 09/22/2021 – 09/22/2022. Social workers completing this course receive 6.0 continuing education credits.

This activity is approved for a maximum of 6.0 contact hours of continuing education in psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery in the following CPRP Focus Domain(s): ## - DOMAIN TITLE.  CPRPs and CPRP candidates should only claim credit commensurate with their participation in the activity

Rochelle Reimert is a graduate of Walden University with a master’s degree in Human Services. She has over 25 years of experience in community behavioral health and drug and alcohol services.  Rochelle is a skilled trainer and has been a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner since 2007. She is currently an assistant operations director with Salisbury Behavioral Health and is responsible for the oversight of their psychiatric rehabilitation services. Through her work she can promote recovery-oriented principles and practices supporting individuals to be independent in the environments of their choice while gaining stability in their addiction.  Rochelle is a strong advocate for mental health and promoter of recovery for all. She is a current member of the board of directors, board secretary, co-chair of the education committee and facilitates several of the course offerings offered by the chapter.
