About This Course

Adolescents spend an average of seven hours daily connected to screens and consuming a media diet while pre-teens consume about five hours of the same. While youth often feel they multitask well when using their devices, heavy social media users do not do well on cognitive tests that measure their attention and the ability to multi-task. Research tells us that extended involvement with their devices affects the very development of the teenage brain, impacting memory, maintaining attention, processing information and the very structure of their brain. Recent studies show that the brain scans of individuals who are heavy social media users have brains that look very similar to individuals addicted to drugs and gambling.
