About This Course

This will be a practice-oriented training for participants interested in developing confidence and capacity to screen for harmful or abusive behavior. The workshop will explore key differences between screening for harmful behavior and screening for having been harmed, elaborate site-specific considerations and review strategies for effective engagement when screening for abusive behavior.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Identify potential benefits and risks of screening clients in general practice settings for harmful behavior from or toward their intimate partners.
  2. Describe three differences between screening for harmful behavior and screening for having been harmed.
  3. Develop confidence in broaching the subject of harmful behavior with a broad range of clients or patients.
  4. Explore considerations for establishing screening that is appropriate for different settings.
  5. Identify barriers to engagement when conducting a screen for abusive behavior.
  6. Describe strategies for best possible engagement when screening for harmful behavior.

 

Intended Audience: 

DBHIdS and OHS staff and providers, as well as staff of behavioral health service provider organizations and other human services and community-based organizations.

Completion Requirements: 

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.

BHTEN is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is authorized to issue the IACET CEU. 
As an IACET Accredited Provider, BHTEN offers CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard.  BHTEN is authorized by IACET to offer CEUs for this program.
