About This Course

Bullying and cyberbullying can have a profound impact on youth’s mental health, relationships and the developing brain. Chronic bullying has been found to impact specific regions of the brain, including the amygdala and prefrontal cortex, leading to chronic emotional stress, compromised mental health and physical and social dysfunction. Stress hormones released during chronic bullying have been found to change the circuitry in the reward centers of the brain, increasing risk for issues with substance use. The good news the networks and circuitry in the brain have the ability to change over time in response to the environment.

  • Explore bullying as a stressor and its impact on brain development
  • Examine bullying as a form of trauma and the effect on mental and physical health
