About This Course

The research on resilience among children began in 1955 on the island of Kauai. Much has been learned about the importance of developing resilience among our youth since. Among the findings in the research is the power of a healthy, positive relationship with an adult to tip the scale from risk to resilience. This workshop will examine both the early research on resilience, as well as the most recent.

Learning Objectives:

  • Outline definitions of resilience, along with the internal and environmental factors of resilience.
  • Identify the roles that adults can play in the development of resilience among youth.
  • Explain how mirroring strengths for youth is significant in the development of resilience.
  • List specific strategies, programs and resources to aid in the development of resilience among youth.
