About This Course

Grief is the response to experiencing a major loss and can have profound impacts on a person. The loss of a loved one can feel like a tragedy, feelings of devastation and immense pain. The loss of a loved one from a substance use disorder can complicate and add nuances to those feelings of grief. In this training we will discuss often cited stages of grief while also talking through the additional layers and considerations of grieving someone who died from a SUD. This training will offer supportive information and techniques for someone grieving themselves or those supporting someone grieving.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Discuss 3 different types of guilt commonly associated with losing someone to a SUD
  • List multiple local resources for those grieving someone who died of a SUD
  • Identify coping mechanisms for managing intense grief

Intended Audience: 

Behavioral health providers that work in the drug and alcohol setting.

Completion Requirements: 

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.
