About This Course
This training will discuss how to navigate common challenges that arise when working with children and their families in therapy. The training will focus on the importance of engaging children and their caregivers, what the research indicates, and practical suggestions of how to handle the challenges.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify common challenges in engaging children and caregivers in therapy
- Discuss how to approach some of these challenges including examining a therapist’s role and cultural considerations
- Examine the research around the therapeutic alliance and how the research underscores the importance of this engagement work

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.

Sara Rothschild, PsyD is a licensed psychologist and instructor at the Penn Collaborative for CBT and Implementation Science. Dr. Rothschild completed her undergraduate training at New York University before earning her doctoral degree from Yeshiva University in 2018. While at Yeshiva she gained experience across New York City working with children, adolescents, and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and trauma across a multitude of settings. After completing her APA internship at Northwell Health, Dr. Rothschild moved back to her hometown of Philadelphia where she completed her Postdoctoral training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at the CARES Institute. Dr. Rothschild is passionate about training others in and providing CBT to children, adolescents, and families in need.
