About This Course
Individuals will learn prevalence and contributing factors to prescription opioid use and addiction in older adults. This training will discuss commonly prescribed opioids and populations of older adults that may be more at risk for over-prescription or addiction. Signs and symptoms of prescription opioid addiction and treatment interventions will be discussed. Protective factors in the older adult population and future directions for reducing opioid addiction due to prescriptions will be reviewed.
Learning Objectives:
Recognize commonly prescribed opioid medications, prescription uses and strengths.
Identify factors that have led to the opioid crisis and outcomes of recent court cases.
Learn prevalence rates of opioid prescribing and addiction in older adults, factors that have contributed to over-prescription and current trends in prescribing.
Explore options for treatment and intervention for older adults and how to assist older adults in rehabilitation and ongoing recovery.

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate.
