About This Course
This webinar will cover Stages of Change theory, and how it applies to behavioral change in ourselves and others. We will also introduce the principles and basic techniques of Motivational Interviewing (MI), which is an evidence-based and client-centered approach for enhancing motivation and commitment to behavioral change. Through a combination of participatory exercises, illustrative videos and lecture, participants will learn the building blocks of effective MI counseling. Particular attention.
Learning Objectives:
- List and describe the Stages of Change
- Identify service strategies that are appropriate to each of the Stages
- Discuss alternative ways to respond to people who are “resistant” or “stuck”
- Identify and begin to practice some of interaction techniques of MI
- Define reflective listening and its use in providing recovery-oriented support
Intended Audience:
Behavioral Health and public health providers who work with individuals in recovery, experience grief, loss and depression or provide public health services

Completion Requirements:
Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. Certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.

Ryan has worked with non-profit, community, and managed care settings. He is experienced in training development and delivery, behavioral health program development, procurements, clinical interventions, as well as clinical and administrative supervision. Previously, Ryan worked as a director of residential treatment programs for adults with severe behavioral health needs, providing crisis intervention and individual and group therapy in those settings. Ryan has also provided services in outpatient settings and in the community for youth and adolescents on the autism spectrum. He earned his M.S. in Psychology from Villanova University.

Brienne has been working in the behavioral health field for the past 11 years and has done so in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. During this time, she has provided behavioral health services as an instructional designer, trainer, behavioral health clinician/therapist, case manager, research assistant, and mental health technician. Brienne holds a MA in Mental Health Counseling from Seton Hall University and has training in trauma, counseling practices (including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Grief), learning management systems, and project management. Brienne is also a CPI Certified Associate Instructor for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention®. Brienne currently works at DBHIDS as the Learning Development Specialist.
