About This Course
Identify behavioral levels that contribute to the development of a crisis and choose appropriate staff intervention for each level; Identify useful non-verbal techniques in the prevention of acting out behavior; develop crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation skills; demonstrate principles of personal safety to avoid injury if behavior escalates to a physical level; use a model for action after an incident that will bring about necessary closure, debriefing, and re-establishment of a therapeutic relationship with the individuals involved.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify signs, symptoms and risk factors for substance use disorder in older adults.
- Learn known prevalence rates of substance abuse across substances in older adults, and factors that contribute to under-identification and under-diagnosis.
- Learn risk factors for medication misuse and intervention.
- Explore options for treatment and intervention for older adults and how to assist older adults in rehabilitation and ongoing recovery.

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate.
