About This Course
This training provides an overview of information and practice strategies as well as specific tools for behavioral health and other human services staff working to support persons needing to recover from trauma, with a focus on how to interact with persons receiving services using trauma-informed approaches.
Learning Objectives:
- Summarize the prevalence and neurophysiological impact that traumatic stress can have;
- Discuss trauma-informed strategies that can be used by staff to support recovery and healing from early histories of trauma.
- Use and practice at least 2 trauma-informed activities and tools.

Behavioral Health and other direct service and clinical staff

Completion Requirements:
Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.

BHTEN is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is authorized to issue the IACET CEU.
As an IACET Accredited Provider, BHTEN offers CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard. BHTEN is authorized by IACET to offer CEUs for this program.

Ryan has worked with non-profit, community, and managed care settings. He is experienced in training development and delivery, behavioral health program development, procurements, clinical interventions, as well as clinical and administrative supervision. Previously, Ryan worked as a director of residential treatment programs for adults with severe behavioral health needs, providing crisis intervention and individual and group therapy in those settings. Ryan has also provided services in outpatient settings and in the community for youth and adolescents on the autism spectrum. He earned his M.S. in Psychology from Villanova University.

Kalma has spent almost 40 years working in community behavioral health, the last twenty-five of which have been in training and consultation. In her current position at BHTEN, in addition to being trained as a trainer in the Community Resilience Model, Kalma developed and implemented a flagship trauma training initiative, now in its 20th year that also includes addressing the impact of trauma work on staff. She has presented locally, regionally and nationally. She is a strong cross-systems advocate for trauma/resilience-informed, recovery oriented behavioral health and other human services. Kalma has a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Boston University and is Certified as a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner.
