About This Course

This workshop will introduce participants to the basics of trauma-informed care, to set the foundation for working with individuals who have experienced trauma.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Define what trauma is and how it affects the brain, body, and behavior
  • Apply Trauma-Informed Principles of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural humility into clinical practice
  • Assess trauma history and use grounding and stabilization techniques to help clients regulate emotions
  • Name strategies for building trust and maintaining professional boundaries
  • Discuss evidence-based treatment modalities such as Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD

Completion Requirements: 

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.

4.5 CE credit hours for Psychologists awarded.  BHTEN is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.  BHTEN maintains responsibility for this program and its content

Sandy Capaldi, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety, where she serves as the PTSD Training Coordinator. Dr. Capaldi has a variety of clinical experiences with patient populations ranging from children to older adults. She specializes in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) for PTSD, Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP) for OCD, and cognitive-behavioral treatment for trichotillomania, social anxiety, panic disorder, specific phobias, and generalized anxiety.
