About This Course

Trauma is a significant public health concern and the need to address it is viewed as an important component of effective behavioral health service delivery (SAMSHA, 2014). This training will explore the foundational principles of trauma by defining, illustrating different types of trauma and explain the neurological process of trauma. The training will also offer solutions for a trauma informed approach which will includes the 6 Guiding principles to a trauma informed approach and how to support trauma informed workplace.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Participants will be able to identify what trauma is, its statistical prevalence and learn to recognize signs and symptoms.
  • Identify the neurological implications of trauma, generational trauma and historic trauma integration
  • Explore resilience factors and the utilization of empathy as a tool.
  • Discuss strategies for implementing trauma informed practices.

Completion Requirements: 

Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive credits and a certificate. All CEU certificates and certificates of attendance will be received through the DBHIDS Learning Hub. Once you have completed your evaluation you will have access to your CEU or Certificate of Attendance through your DBHIDS Learning Hub Account.

BHTEN is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is authorized to issue the IACET CEU. 
As an IACET Accredited Provider, BHTEN offers CEUs for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET Standard.  BHTEN is authorized by IACET to offer CEUs for this program.

Charlotte Weber, LSW, Provider Training and Development Specialist has experience providing trauma-informed counseling and crisis intervention to survivors of intimate partner violence and sex trafficking. Charlotte also has experience working within the criminal justice system, providing support to justice-involved individuals and training court staff on trauma responsiveness. She began her employment at Community Behavioral Health as a Clinical Care Manager on the Psychiatric Emergency Services Line before transitioning to her current role in Provider Training and Development.

Kay (she/her) is one of BHTEN’s Addiction Recovery Training Specialists. With a history of working in the public sector, non-profits, and community organizing efforts, Kay is experienced in crisis management, substance use response, training implementation, and working with LGBTQIA+ populations. She previously worked with youth and families experiencing chronic or anticipatory homelessness, and adults in substance use recovery and/or active use. Kay is also a harm reduction organizer in Philadelphia and applies a harm reduction framework to her direct practice and systems level work. She received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania.
