About This Course
Audience members will learn the fundamentals of LGBTQ+ Identity. They will learn LGBTQ+ language and terminology as well as the fundamental components of LGBTQ+ identity such as: Sexual orientation, sex assigned at birth, gender identity, and gender expression. There will be room and space in the training for audience members to ask questions and interact through case scenarios. We will share best practice recommendations as well as a resource manual for making LGBTQ+ affirming referrals.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn the fundamentals of LGBTQ+ identity including gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, and gender expression.
- Learn best practices for working with LGBTQ+ community
Intended Audience:
All Behavioral Health staff.

Completion Requirements:
Participants must attend the entire session, participate in all activities, and submit an evaluation within the 7 days of training to receive a certificate.

Quinn Pellerito (they) holds the position of the LGBTQ+ Education Specialist at WOAR – Philadelphia Center Against Sexual Violence. They collaborate on the lotus. program which offers trauma informed care and LGBTQ+ affirming training to providers. Quinn’s goal is to create a broad resource network of providers in Philadelphia that are able to serve the needs of LGBTQ+ victims and survivors of sexual violence. Quinn co-faciliates the LGBTQ+ sexual violence support group at WOAR as well as offers healthy relationship and consent workshops to LGBTQ+ community. Quinn looks forward to launching the lotus. peer to peer transformative justice sexual violence support program.

Carla Reyes
Education Specialist
Mazzoni Center
Carla Reyes joined Mazzoni Center as an Education Specialist for LGBTQ+ Interpersonal Violence. With a background in research and indirect service work, they strive to combine data-driven evidence with trauma-informed relationship building. As a queer educator, professional, and friend, their goal is to meet folks where they are and distribute well-rounded, up-to date information and resources to the community. Their role at Mazzoni involves collaborating with others to develop, facilitate, and evaluate IPV-focused and trauma-informed intersectional LGBTQ+ competency education. They received a B.S. in Psychology, with a focus on the interdisciplinary overlap of Mathematics, Philosophy, and Psychology. Carla has been involved in community service for many years, focusing on food and housing security, childhood development, and queer mental health. Outside of work, they can be found reading in the park, singing loudly off-key, or calling their mom, sister, and niece (sometimes all at once).

Jared Brooks
Jared Brooks joined Mazzoni Center in 2023 as the Logistics Coordinator of the Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference. In 2025, they took on additional responsibilities as an Education Specialist for LGBTQ+ Interpersonal Violence. Born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Jared has resided in Philadelphia for the past nine years. They earned their Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies with a concentration in Global Security, a minor in City and Regional Planning, and a certificate in French from Temple University in 2019. Jared has over five years of experience in nonprofit program operations and has a passion for serving the community. They previously managed hunger relief programs fighting food insecurity in refugee and migrant communities in South Philadelphia and served in AmeriCorps at a public high school assisting students with college and career readiness in West Philadelphia.

Quinn Bell Sunnolia (they/them) (BFA) has 5 years of experience employed at WOAR – Philadelphia Center for Sexual Violence and 4 years’ experience volunteering on their hotline. Quinn’s current role is the Restorative Justice Initiative Coordinator where they work to create a restorative justice service for WOAR clients. Quinn additionally holds the role of LGBTQ+ Education Specialist, they facilitated professional development training to providers on the intersection of trauma informed care and LGBTQ+ affirming care. They additionally provide technical assistance and case consultation to organizations on trauma informed care and LGBTQ+ best practices. Quinn has been contracted by Respect Together / PCAR to review and revise statewide curricula. They have reviewed and written policies for organizations regarding appropriate conduct and LGBTQ+ affirming practices. Quinn has also provided direct services to survivors of sexual violence through operating the WOAR hotline for 4 years and running WOAR’s LGBTQ+ sexual violence support group for an additional 4 years. They additionally hold frameworks related to racial and disability justice and are working to establish the Restorative Justice Program at WOAR and have written a disability best practices manual at WOAR.
